Chilean born Alex Pertout has for decades being recognised as one of Australia's leading percussionists and with credits on hundreds of albums and soundtracks is undeniably one of Australia's most recorded musicians, his playing gracing number one charting singles and albums and countless award winning recordings. Alex has also attained credits with television orchestras, in countless live performances, in the theatre, as a recording artist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and record producer, as an author, as an improviser as well as a respected educator.
As a founding member of the Australian Art Orchestra led by Paul Grabowsky he has toured Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania, has performed as a soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, has recording, performance and television orchestra credits with an array of artists including Powderfinger, Badi Assad, Shane Howard, James Morrison, Paul Kelly, Casiopea, Jackson Browne, Little River Band w/John Farnham, Archie Roach, Hunters & Collectors, Daryl Braithwaite, Goanna, The Black Sorrows, Tony Gould, Dave Valentin, Ute Lemper, Charlelie Couture, Redgum, The Commodores, Kutcha Edwards, Tommy Emmanuel, Tina Arena, Goanna, Kate Ceberano, Broderick Smith, Tom E Lewis, Brian Brown, Mondo Rock and Cezary Skubiszewski among many others. His
work can also be heard on numerous motion pictures including It Runs In The Family, Empire Falls, Crocodile Dundee, Gross Misconduct, Aladdin: The Return Of Jafar to name a few and in the theatre he currently features in The Lion King production.
Alex has produced cds as a multi-instrumentalist, composer and performer his release 'From The Heart' features Mike Stern, Tom Coster, Tommy Emmanuel, Raul Rekow, Hossam Ramzy and
Mark Levine amongs others, is the author of 'Sight Reading: The Rhythm Book' released worldwide by US publishers Mel Bay, is a regular contributor to Drumscene magazine and is endorsed internationally by Meinl percussion, Sabian cymbals and Vater sticks. Alex graduated with High Distinction from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), holds a Master of Philosophy in Music degree from the Australian National University (ANU) and is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Jazz & Improvisation at the Faculty of VCA and MCM at the University of Melbourne. He has a project with vocalist Nilusha Dassenaike titled Alex & Nilusha with a new release 'Tales To Tell' which won the 'Premio Internacional' at the 2015 Cubadisco Music Awards in Havana, Cuba.
